ABOUT THIS COURSE

French Language reviews the material taught in two to three semesters of college-level French. The course develops listening and reading skills, comprehension of vocabulary and structure, and familiarity with everyday contexts and cultural references.

This is a free, self-paced Modern States course with no prerequisites. It is aligned to the CLEP® French Language exam, which combines Level 1 and Level 2 content in a single test and includes separately timed listening and reading sections. Most colleges that grant credit for CLEP® language exams award the equivalent of two or more semesters of credit, depending on your exam score.

Modern States originally developed this course in collaboration with Romain Chareyron, Ph.D. of Washington State University. Dr. Nabil Boudraa of Oregon State University supported course enhancements published in 2025.
