ABOUT THIS COURSE

College Mathematics reviews the material typically taught in a college-level math course for nonmathematics majors and students in fields that don’t require advanced mathematics. The course builds skills in algebra and functions, counting and probability, data analysis and statistics, financial mathematics, geometry, logic and sets, and the real number system.

This is a free, self-paced Modern States course with no prerequisites. It is aligned to the CLEP® College Mathematics exam and is designed to prepare you to succeed on the test and earn college credit at no cost. During the exam, a scientific (non-graphing) calculator is available online.

Modern States originally developed this course in collaboration with James M. Murphy, now at Tufts University, Department of Mathematics. Dr. Dywayne A Nicely of The Ohio State University – Marion Campus supported course enhancements published in 2025.
