ABOUT THIS COURSE

Chemistry reviews the content typically taught in a one-year college course in general chemistry. The course emphasizes understanding the structure and states of matter, types of reactions, equations and stoichiometry, equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics, and both descriptive and experimental chemistry.

This is a free, self-paced Modern States course with no prerequisites. It is aligned to the CLEP® Chemistry exam and is designed to prepare you to succeed on the test and earn college credit at no cost. During the CLEP® examination, a scientific calculator and periodic table are available within the testing software.

Modern States originally developed this course in collaboration with Ruben Savizky, Ph.D. of Columbia, Cooper Union, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. Abdul Mohammed, Ph.D. of North Carolina Central University supported course enhancements published in 2025.
